Ho Chi Minh City recruits 100 native English teachers

English teacherHo Chi Minh City’s education department is going to recruit 100 teachers who are native English speakers for a project with the target at increasing the English skills of students in the next year.

According to the project recently announced on the department’s website, as of 2020, each local school will have at least one teacher who is a native English speaker.

Candidates must possess English teaching certificates such as the Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), the Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT), and the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).

Further details pertaining to the requirements, recruitment as well as the job itself, however, are still being drafted by the department.

The department also plans to recruit 762 Vietnamese English teachers, who will also be required to have international certificates like the TOEFL or those granted by European testing organizations, the Dan Tri news website reported.

It quoted Nguyen Hoai Chuong, vice director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, as saying that the department will increase the quality of English teachers "by all means," including more bonuses and higher salaries to attract good teachers.

The project has been allotted over VND408-billion (US$19.5 million) and more than VND336 billion ($16 million) of which will be used to build foreign language learning labs and purchase equipment. Meanwhile, the rest money is invested to go toward training programs.
