Vietnam Television and Cat Tien Sa company, the organizers of the ongoing singing contest “The Voice of Vietnam”, on September 17 sent a document to the Performing Arts Department announcing that musician Hoai Sa will take over from musician Phuong Uyen as music director after a recent result-fixing scandal.

coaches Dam Vinh Hung and Thu Minh, Cat Tien Sa's director Quang Minh, mucisian Phuong Uyen, coaches Ho Ngoc Ha and Tran Lap at the press conference on September 11 on the result-fixing scandal.

Earlier, the department had suggested that the show’s organizers replace Uyen since she had been directly involved in the incident.

On September 9, after the third episode of the battle round was broadcast, a video clip featuring a number of emails exchanged between several people thought to be Uyen and some of “The Voice’s” contestants was spread among netizens at the speed of light.

Besides showing the close relationships between those people via the emails, the video includes an audio file featuring a conversation between three people thought to be Uyen, the show’s producer Tuong Vy, and contestant Phuong Linh about the battle performance of Linh and another contestant, H'Zina Bya.

In the conversation, the woman thought to be Uyen advises Linh to choose kinds of music that her rival contestant can’t sing, like R&B or other English songs, in order to ensure that no matter how well H'Zina Bya sang, Linh would remain the person chosen to advance to the next round.

Moreover, the suspected Uyen reassures Linh that there’s nothing to worry about with her coach, singer Thu Minh, since Uyen is the one who has the right to decide everything.

On September 11, the show’s organizers held a press conference to explain the issue. At the conference, despite Uyen’s expressed wish to leave after she admitted that the clip is true but edited on purpose, Cat Tien Sa’s director, as well as four coaches of “The Voice” and all of thecontestants attending that day, said they wanted her to stay.

At the end of the meeting, the musician agreed to stay and said she would prove who she really is, which is not like what people saw via the clip.

However, one day later, she submitted her resignation to the company, saying she really wanted to leave.

According to Ngueyn Thanh Nhan, the Performing Arts Department’s vice director, the department has no right to decide the replacement of the show’s music director, but has the right to consult the organizers.

“The department doesn’t agree that Phuong Uyen should stay since her statements have created a bad image for the show. Uyen herself wants to resign due to the pressure she has suffered these past few days. Cat Tien Sa finally agrees with the department’s point of view,” he stated.
