Vietnam still stands in 146th place in the latest world ranking that FIFA announced this month, while the four-time world champions Brazil have again failed to return to the top ten

The country secured 20th place in the Asian region, and only stands behind Thailand, who has jumped two places to #131, in Southeast Asia.

There were no changes in the world’s top ten. Euro champions Spain remain on top of the world, and are eying a fifth consecutive year at the top spot.

Slovenia made a huge leap from #33 to #24, while North Korea jumped 10 places to become the world’s No.81, and 8th in Asia.

Brazil, which will host the 2014 World Cup, again stands outside of the top ten as it only ranks #12, even lower than Greece (#11), and Denmark (#10).

The 2002 World Cup champions, however, did jump one place on the tally from the #13 position in August, thanks to their 3 – 0 win over Sweden in a friendly game last month.

Ivory Coast leads the African region in 16th place, while Mexico tops CONCACAF at #21, and Japan, the highest in Asia, sits at 23rd place.

This month will see the qualifying games of the 2014 World Cup, and the FIFA ranking is expected to witness huge changes.

Below is the world’s top ten football nations, with the number in brackets last month’s ranks.

1. (1) Spain
2. (2) Germany
3. (3) England
4. (5) Portugal
5. (4) Uruguay
6. (6) Italy
7. (7) Argentina
8. (8) The Netherlands
9. (9) Croatia
10. (10) Denmark
