VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnam Railway Corporation has announced it will cut fares for seats in carriers with air-conditioners on all north-south trains by 5% from September 25 to December 15, 2008.

Nguyen Huu Tuyen, head of the corporation’s Transportation Business Department, said around 50% of seats on each north-south trains will have reduced fares.

Tuyen also said that the train fares are being cut because the reduction of VND450/liter of diesel. Moreover, the number of train passengers often falls from late September to late December so the reduction of train fares is one way to promote ticket sales.

On August 10, the Vietnam Railways Corporation increased fares for the north-south route by 1-15%. The highest increase was applied for beds in four-bed carriers with air conditioners.

Every day there are five pairs of trains running on the north-south route.
