Vietnam’s biggest sapphire Buddha statue in Hoi An

On April 19, The shapphire statue of Buddha on nirvana in Hoi An pagoda (Binh Duong city) officially set a record of the biggest statue in Vietnam recognized by Vietnam Guinness Record Council.

According to the Buddhist monk of the pagoda,  head of the Buddhist Shangha of Binh Duong Province, the buddha statue was taken to the pagoda on January 31. It is called “Ky Lam Ngoc Phat” (sapphire Buddha).

The sculpture of reclining Buddha is 35 tonnes in weight and 4.2 metres in length, It is made of the precious dark blue stone mined in the central province of Nghe An. The statue was assessed by the DOJI Institute for Gem Studies and Jewelry. The institute affirmed that the statue is made of precious stones of dark green color, which has a hardness of 8.5-9 degrees (only after diamond).
