After hearing report from Ha Long People's Committee on the plan to manage, organize activities on the bay, Chairman of Quang Ninh People's Committee Nguyen Duc Long has approved to resume kayak service from May 1.

Earlier on April 1, the services were halted according to a decision by the Ha Long city’s authorities that worried cruise owners, tour operators and tourists as the sport is an interesting activity that attract lots of foreign visitors to Ha Long Bay

However, to ensure management work and meet tourists' demand, Quang Ninh People's Committee only allow this service as well as hand-operated cable ferry in some place of the tour trip including Ba Hang, Trinh Nu Cave (Virgin Cave), Luon Cave, Dong Tien Lake, Cua Van, Vong Vieng and in the daytime.

Chairman Long asked kayak tour operators to ensure safety for tourists while the Ha Long municipal People’s Committee must issue regulations on safety requirements for kayaks and small boats.

Only those meeting requirements and signing contract with the municipal authorities are eligible to offer kayak services.

Ha Long Bay currently boasts more than 1,400 kayaks, including nearly 1,100 operated by 163 overnight vessels; 33 high-speed canoes, 108 small boats using oars and several aquatic entertainment activities.
