Lunar New Year (Tet holiday) is the chance for rich people to show their wealth through displaying unusual things at home. Besides unique ornamental trees and ornamental fish, some people buy special ceramic items to display.

Several months before Tet, some people paid visits to traditional ceramic villages to order special ceramic items for Tet

Artisan To Thanh Son from Hanoi’s Bat Trang ceramic village told VietNamNet that besides popular products as flower vases and pots, tea-sets, dishes, statues, etc. Bat Trang artisans also make objects for worship to serve rich people. These products are specially designed according to customers’ requests.

Son said that a man from Ha Dong district in Hanoi ordered a censer, a par of lotus vases and a pair of worshipping lamps totaling VND50 million ($2500). A provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism ordered a censer worth VND50 million. All of these products imitate ancient designs and they are handmade by senior artisans.
