The Tan Trao banyan tree has recently come back to life, said the deputy director of Tan Trao Cultural, Historical and Ecological Tourism Area, Ly Manh Thang.

The sole surviving branch of the legendary tree has now two clusters of roots that go deep into the soil and receive nutrition.

Many buds have appeared on the tree, whose leaf canopy is around 7 meters. The banyan tree was thought to have die ten years ago.

Thanh Ha Joint Stock Company, who has taken over the responsibility of restoring the tree, will continue to cooperate with Tan Trao Cultural, Historical and Ecological Tourism Area to tend the banyan tree.

The Tan Trao is a small valley lying in the mountainous jungles of Son Duong District, which is 40 km from the town of Tuyen Quang and 200km from Hanoi.

The main places of interest include the Tan Trao Communal House, the Hong Thai Communal House, and a small jungle hut where President Ho Chi Minh lived from June to August 1945.

Tan Trao was the temporary capital of the independent section of Vietnam, where the Vietnamese Communist Party held several meetings during August 1945.
