Announcing on September 7, 2011, a US$800 million project is underway to build

an overhead road over Binh Duong Avenue in southern Binh Duong Province near National Highway 13, reported Vietnam News

Chairman of the provincial committee Le Thanh Cung said the completion of the overhead road was expected to reduce the load and traffic jams on as well as boost socio-economic development. Binh Duong Avenue currently suffers from heavy traffic congestion. This would be the first time an overhead road has been built in Vietnam, according to the committee.

The provincial People's Committee has assigned Investment and Industrial Development Corporation, Becamex IDC, as the project investor.

National Route 13, and important highway in Vietnam, is a highway in southern Vietnam stretching from the northeastern outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City towards the border to Cambodia. The highway starts around Thu Duc on the northern outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City and travels north through the provinces of Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc. The highway passes through the districts of Thuan An, Thu Dau Mot town, Ben Cat, Chon Thanh, Dong Phu, Binh Long, and Loc Ninh.

The Binh Duong new overhead road will be 31 kilometres in length and 18 metres in width, with four lanes connecting Thuan An Township and Ben Cat District.

According to experts, it would have a capacity of at least 50,000 vehicles per day, eight times higher than at present.

The two phase project is scheduled to start in 2012 and end in 2014.
