Forbes magazine says Vietnam Dairy Products JSC, often known as Vinamilk, has what it takes to become one of the 50 best publicly traded companies in the Asia-Pacific next year.

The company, the nation’s biggest listed dairy producer, did not crack Asia’s Fab 50 this year but it has been named by Forbes as one of the 12 companies “waiting in the wings”, ready to appear on the annual list.

The Fab 50 are chosen from a pool of 1,295 regional companies that had at least US$3 billion in annual revenue or market capitalization. Forbes said the list takes into account revenue, earnings, return on capital, share-price movements and the companies' general outlooks.

Fifteen companies are new this year. China, once again, dominated the list with 23 entries, followed by India with 11 companies. South Korea had four while Malaysia, Japan, Philippines and Singapore each had one representative.

Vinamilk’s market cap has topped $2.7 billion. Its shares have surged 30 percent this year on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange.
