VietNamNet BridgeA group of US educational experts is on a visit to Vietnam to work with the Ministry of Education and Training on a project to establish an American International University (AIU) in the country.

Vietnamese universities and colleges, especially national universities, are second to none in similar developing countries.

AIU aims at providing quality training with affordable costs. In addition to regular training courses, the university will offer short and specialised courses for women and it will focus on social administration, health care and environment.

Dr. Evan Samuel Dobelle, head of the US delegation, said he hoped that the establishment of the university will be completed within a year, providing support for the Ministry of Education and Training’s plan to improve the quality of tertiary training.

Prof. Michael Letstz, a member of the delegation, said Vietnamese universities and colleges, especially national universities, are second to none in similar developing countries. He added, however, that it is necessary to increase investment in universities to improve the quality of education.

Vietnam currently has 322 universities and colleges with an enrolment of more than 1.5 million students, or 150 students for every 10,000 people.
