The first round of the Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS) 2011 in Vietnam will take place on April 9, with the participation of 581 students.


They are selected sixth and seventh graders from the cities of Hanoi, HCM City, Hue city, Da Nang and Binh Duong province.

They will take part in two competitions, using English. The first competition will be held on April 9 in Hanoi, Da Nang and HCM City. The top ten percent students will enter the second round in Singapore on May 28.

Forty prizes will be granted to the top 40 contestants in the second round. The first prize winner will receive 1000 Singaporean dollars, $800 for the second prize winner and $500 for the third prize winner.

The APMOPS draws nearly 8,000 competitors from 14 countries in Asia-Pacific region. It was organized in Vietnam for the first time in 2009, with 330 participants. Last year, two Vietnamese students ranked 11th and 12th in the region.

In Vietnam, the competition is held by KinderWorld Vietnam group and Singapore’s Hwa Chong.
