VietNamNet Bridge - The Vietnam-UK University under construction in Da Nang is set to enroll students in September 2012, according to local authorities.

The central city’s leaders and advisors from the UK have just met to make necessary preliminary steps to start enrolling as planned.

Vietnam and UK governments agreed two years ago to upgrade the Da Nang University to the Vietnam – UK University meeting international standards of training and management.

As agreed, the Southeast Asian nation will be in charge of raising funds for the university while the UK will act as an indirect donor who will also seek financial sources from UK universities and businesses, as well as from other international organizations.

The Vietnamese government has approved a 200 billion budget to support the implementation of the project.

It wants the educational institution to be listed in the world top rankings in 10-15 years.

In its first academic year, the Vietnam – UK University expects to enroll 230 students for undergraduate and graduate programs with a focus on technical, economic, and tourism majors.

Vietnam has recently expressed strong desire to construct international-level universities to improve the country’s teaching and research quality at tertiary level.

It has had so far only one international-standard university, namely the Vietnam-Germany University now in operation in Ho Chi Minh City.
