Vietnam and Belgium will launch a joint website dedicated to education to help further strengthen the ties between the two countries and promote the former’s academic environment, Belgian ambassador to Vietnam, Hubert Cooreman, said last week.

The online portal website would also be a useful forum for Vietnamese students studying in European countries to share their study abroad experiences, he added.

Begium annually grants undergraduate and graduate scholarships to Vietnamese students, Cooreman said, noting an MBA program using Belgian curricula has been offered in the capital and Ho Chi Minh City.

Around 40 students go to Belgium for their master and PhD training programs on the Belgian government’s scholarships each year, according to the ministry’s statistics.

Numerous other scholarships have also been offered to Vietnamese students by Belgian universities and organizations since 2003, the statistics also show.

The two countries will initiate more cooperation in such areas as agriculture, forestry, aquaculture, science, technology, health care, infrastructure, and others.

The education ministry and a delegation of Belgian leading universities hosted a seminar on education reform on the same day.

Representatives from the universities presented their experience in education as well as initiatives to further foster cooperation in the field between the two countries.

Some agreements were also signed between Vietnamese and Belgian universities during the event.
