The
number of candidates having attended the exams made up 99.64 per cent of the
total registered, equal to that of last year.

While
over 3,800 candidates quit the exams, as many as 45 candidates were found in
violation of exam regulations and suspended, a decrease of half compared to last
year.

Examination questions were assessed to be exact, scientific and suitable to
candidate capability.

La Van
Quyet, an ethnic Tay minority student from the northern mountainous province of
Lao Cai, said: “In general, the questions were not too difficult, the exams were
organised scientifically and safely.”

Director
of the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training Truong Kim Minh said that
this year’s examination questions required candidates to understand and apply
their knowledge.

“This is
an important measure to prevent some students from learning by rote,” he said.

The Thua
Thien-Hue city Red Cross Society joined hands with the provincial Department of
Education and Training to provide 1,000 free meals to poor students from ethnic
minorities in Nam Dong and A Luoi mountainous districts.

Binh
Thuan authorities arranged accommodation for 305 candidates from Phu Quy Island.

Youth
volunteers in Lao Cai Province set up motorbike taxi teams in order to transport
students in case of bad weather.
