The health department of Binh Thuan Province has ordered investigation into the death of a woman who died Monday after giving birth.

A report on the death of 32-year-old Le Thi Lien must be submitted by February 14, the department said in a memo sent to Bac Binh District’s health center and the General Hospital of Northern Binh Thuan.

Initial information showed that at 2 a.m. Monday Lien was admitted to the health center of Luong Son Town for delivery.

An hour later, both mother and child were dead.

According to a nurse, the baby died before delivery, but Lien was not informed. During infusion, the woman bled and died without any apparent reason, she said.

Dr. Phan Ngoc Hung, director of An Phuoc General Hospital in Phan Thiet Town, said there are three possible causes for Lien’s death - hemorrhage, amniotic fluid embolism, or a pre-existing condition like heart disease.
