Lam Dong’s Provincial leaders asked local health officials to inspect every restaurant in Da Lat, on Wednesday, after 439 cases of cooking poisoning were reported this month.

Restaurants found to be in violation of food hygeine and safety regulations will be “strictly handled,” said officials from the provincial People’s Committee.

According to the Lam Dong Department of Health, 439 people suffered food poisoning between June 1 and June 7, most of whom were tourists from Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta.

The town’s Health Care Center said that most of the victims had eaten at Tam Chau restaurant on National Highway 20 in Bao Lam district before arriving in Da Lat.

Most of them experienced the same food poisoning symptoms 25-30 hours after eating.

Health authorities are now collecting food and ice samples from Tam Chau and other restaurants in Da Lat for testing.
