Quang Ngai reports forth HFMD death

A 17-month-old child has become the latest hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) fatality in the central province of Quang Ngai.

The child was admitted to hospital with serious complications and died last Friday, local authorities said without elaborating.

The province reported four HFMD deaths, all were children under the age of five, among more than 700 cases this year.

Up north, the first cases of HFMD this year in Hanoi were recorded in the last two weeks.

An estimated 14 cases were detected in northern cities and provinces, with no fatalities.

No national death toll has been confirmed, but the disease reportedly claimed 13 lives, among the more than 3,000 cases in Ho Chi Minh City.
