VietNamNet Bridge - Twelve singers have been chosen to compete as finalists in “Ho Chi Minh City Television’s Music Star 2008” at Hoa Binh Theater and HCMC TV’s theater from Sept. 20 to Oct. 1.

The competition has been held annually for 18 years. More than 2,000 contestants aged 16 to 25 entered this year’s competition, which opened in August.

During the audition they took a training course on singing, performing styles, clothes, hair style with the instructions of local and foreign experts. To be selected into the following rounds, these contestants will sing in various genres: contemporary folk, revolutionary, pop and rock.

The organization will award one first prize, one second prize, one third prize, seven consolation prizes and other titles such as youngest singer, best folk singer, favorite singer, and best ethnic minority singer.

The jury includes musicians Tran Long An, Ho Quang Binh, Nguyen Ngoc Thien and singers Ta Minh Tam, Thanh Thuy and Ho Quynh Huong.

The contest is organized by Cat Tien Sa Advertising Company and HCMC Television and has achieved great success. The contest is an opportunity for talented young singers to become music stars.
