Being inaugurated on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the capital city of Thang Long-Hanoi in 2010, Thang Long - the country’s longest and most modern highway – has many long cracks and depressions. Thang Long highway was built at the cost of over VND7.5 trillion, with six lanes, totaling 29.25km in length. An official from the Vietnam Construction Import Export Corporation (Vinaconex), which built the highway, said that the corporation is inspecting the road. Ho Ngoc Loan, Deputy chief of the Thang Long project management unit, the investor of Thang Long highway , said that the major reasons for cracks and depressions may be the weak soil and poor quality of construction. Loan said the contractor is mending these cracks and depressions.

This road links Hanoi’s center to industrial zones and new residential areas.

After a short time of inauguration, many cracks and depressions have appeared on the road.

The most serious is a crack of 5-6cm wide and 20cm deep at km9 + 780.

A smaller crack at km 12 + 382.

Some cracks are “mended”, making the road surface uneven.
