Bokova made the remark during her working session with Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Thanh Son on the sidelines of the UNESCO Executive Board’s plenary session in Paris on April 15. 

She praised Vietnam’s efforts in preserving its UNESCO-recognized intangible heritages, including the Hung Kings worship ritual in Phu Tho province.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Thanh Son, who is also head of the Vietnam National UNESCO Committee, delivered a keynote speech at the current meeting in Paris from April 10 to 26, affirming Vietnam’s full support for UNESCO’s initiatives to improve its operation efficiency, role and prestige.

He spoke highly of UNESCO’s education for all (EFA) project and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s “First Education” initiative in this connection.

He emphasized that Vietnam has made remarkable progress in implementing the EFA and education for sustainable development (ESD) projects, and is willing to share its experience with other countries.

The country is also committee to strengthening cooperation between ASEAN and UNESCO and creating a firm legal foundation for promoting bilateral and multilateral ties between the two organizations, he added.

He noted that as Chairman of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO), Vietnam successfully hosted the 47^th SEAMEO conference in Hanoi from March 19-21.
