Party leader addresses Lao National Assembly


Party General Secretary and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong yesterday wished the Lao Revolutionary Party and Lao people many more successes in the renewal of their country.

Trong, who was speaking at the seventh Lao National Assembly, said he hoped they would gain higher status in the region and the world.

He said he was convinced the Lao people would achieve their dream of building a strong, fair, harmonious, civilised and democratic society with a prosperous people.

This was because of the clear leadership of the Lao Party and government, close supervision by the National Assembly, and hard and creative work by the people.

He reiterated the determination of the Vietnamese Party, Government and people to stand by the Lao Party, Government and people.

This was a decisive factor in ensuring the success of national construction and defence of both countries, said Trong.

Lao National Assembly President Pany Yathotou said Trong’s visit was a vivid demonstration of the special solidarity, friendship and loyalty offered by Viet Nam.

Victories gained in the revolutionary cause of the Lao tribes were attributed to the efficient support from their Vietnamese brothers and sisters, said Pany Yathotou.

The same day, Trong and his entourage laid a wreath at a monument in memory of Lao martyrs in Vientiane.

The delegation also visited a museum in memory of the late President Souphanouvong who laid the foundation for the special friendship between the two countries.

President sends condolences over Russian plane crash


State President Nguyen Minh Triet on June 21 sent a message of sympathy to Russian President D. Medvedev over the June 20 plane crash in the Republic of Karelia, Russia.

The Tu-134 passenger plane apparently clipped a power line and crashed in heavy fog on a highway in northwestern Russia, killing 44 people and injuring eight others, the Karelia branch of the Russian Emergencies Ministry said.

The plane, belonging to the RusAir airline, crash landed on a highway about one km away from Petrozavodsk airport at about 11:55 p.m, Moscow time.


VN attends Ukrainian Communist Party Congress


Vice Director of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) Commission for External Relations Vuong Thua Phong has attended the 44th Congress of the Communist Party of Ukraine (CPU) in the capital city of Kiev.
Phong handed over the CPVCC congratulatory message to the congress. He held a working session with First Secretary of the CPU Central Committee P. Simonenko and met with the Vice President of Ukraine’s Ruling Party of Regions (RPA) to discuss possibilities for promoting the relationship between the CPV and the CPU and between the CPV and the RPA.
On the sidelines of the congress, the Vietnamese delegation informed Ukrainian press and international delegations of the results of the 11th National CPV Congress.
The delegation also addressed an international talk on Communist Parties and workers in the context of the global crisis of imperialism: strategy and reality.


VN ambassador to Chile presents credential


Vietnamese newly- accredited Ambassador to Chile Ha Thi Ngoc Ha on June 16 presented her credentials to President of Chile Sebastian Pinera Echenique in the capital city of Santiago de Chile.
At the following reception, Ambassador Ha congratulated President Pinera on his achievements since he came to power.
She affirmed that she would do her utmost to contribute to maintaining and strengthening the cooperative friendship relations between the two countries’ governments and people.
On his part, President Pinera expressed his delight at the fine development of friendly relations between Vietnam and Chile in the past 40 years, and spoke highly of the achievements on social-economic development that Vietnam has made in the process of renovation and integration.
He stressed that the two countries should further promote bilateral trade relation, expressing his hope that the both countries will complete negotiation to reach a bilateral free trade agreement in the coming time.

Political policemen added to HCMC forces


Ho Chi Minh City police on Wednesday unveiled six new departments belonging to the city police forces including the Department for Political Protection No 6, Department for Economic Security and Department for Financial, Monetary, and Investment Security.

The other newly-added units are departments for social security; for hunting wanted criminals; and for implementing criminal verdicts and judicial assistance.

According to the city police, the global situation has turned complicated and hostile elements and criminals have been increasing operations in the past years, causing instability to political security and social order.

“Apart from frauds, robbery, there are new kinds of crimes, non-traditional, so fighting them requires a more professional force with a firm political conviction and thorough knowledge in legal affairs”, police representatives said.

Under an order from the Ministry of Public Security, the new departments are meant to help discover and fight against plots harming the Communist Party and State regarding politics, economy, finance, investment and social issues, among others.
