A wildlife trade management agency has asked the Drug Administration of Vietnam to withdraw the license of a massage gel which contains bile extracted from endangered bears, a news website reported Tuesday.

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)’s management agency in Vietnam said the Gau Misa (Misa Bear) gel produced by the Hanoi-based Quang Minh Commercial Medical Products Company has 0.1 grams of bile in every 100 grams of gel.

The bile was taken from Asian black bears (Ursus thibetanus), and sun bears (Ursus malayanus) which are regulated under the government’s decree on managing endangered wildlife, the news website of Vietnam National Assembly quoted the agency as saying.

CITES Vietnam’s management agency works under the Department of Forest Ranger.
