Vietnam has sent the first batch of relief goods worth a total US$150,000 to Japan as part of Vietnam’s commitment to help Japanese earthquake and tsunami victims, newswire Dan Tri reported.

The relief goods are scheduled to land at Narita International Airport in Tokyo on Thursday.

The batch consisting of apparel products and household commodities will be handed over to the Vietnamese Embassy in Tokyo before being delivered to Japanese people in affected areas.

Vietnamese government offered an urgent aid package of $200,000 in cash to Japan after the massive quake hit the country on March 11.

On March 14, the Vietnam Red Cross Society donated $50,000 to the Japanese people through its Japan partner.

Following Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s instructions, the Vietnam Red Cross Society later organized a nationwide campaign to collect money for Japanese people.

It has to date collected an estimated VND117 billion ($5.7 million) in aid relief, the society posted on its website.
