A court in central Vietnam sentenced 10 men, on Sunday, to between nine and 30 months in prison for assaulting two policemen with knives, last month.

The convicted plead guilty to stabbing and beating the policemen, who stopped them in Da Nang on April 20.

According to the proceedings, the men were driving in a car to exact revenge on a rival gang when they were stopped.

The officers fired several warning shots in the air. When the car stopped, and the group got out, they launched their attack.

The People’s Court of Da Nang’s Hai Chau District sentenced Phan Phat to 21 months in prison while Nguyen Thanh Hieu received 30 months for “directly assaulting” the policemen.

The other assailants were sentenced to between 9 months and 18 months in prison, according to the court ruling.

In the assault, police sergeant-major Nguyen Van Nhon was stabbed numerous times while sergeant-major Duong Minh Trung suffered multiple trauma injuries.

The two officers remain in treatment at a local hospital.
