Vietnamese athletes also received silver and bronze medals in women’s running.

This year’s tournament lacked many top stars of the continent who recently participated in the Olympics 2008 and the Asia Grand Prix.

In the women’s high-jump, Bui Thi Nhung’s major rival in Southeast AsiaThailand’s Chaipech – didn’t attend the event. The first runner-up of the Asian All Stars Prix Meet 2006 from Kazakhstan didn’t perform well. She only cleared 1.85m while recently she has cleared 1.98m. Vietnam’s Bui Thi Nhung, therefore won the gold medal for clearing 1.88m. Her personal best is 1.94m in Thailand in 2005.

Vietnamese runner Vu Thi Huong, meanwhile, won the bronze medal in the women’s 100m run (11.79 seconds).

The women’s 1,500m race lacked many outstanding runners so Truong Thanh Hang was able to win a silver medal (4.22.82 minutes). A runner of the host country, India, won the gold medal (4.21.13 minutes).

Vietnamese athletes have attended the Asian All Stars Prix Meet four times and the country’s previous best was a silver medal won by high jumper Duy Bang in 2006.
