Vietnamese archers finished the first round of the Asian Archery Grand Prix 2011 in Bangkok, Thailand (February 17-22) with two silver medals.

Nguyen Tien Cuong took the silver medal in the men’s three-stringed bow event after losing 2-6 in the final to the 2000 and 2004 Olympics champion Tang Hua of China.

Cuong beat compatriot Nguyen Viet Anh, then Don Don Sombrio of the Philippines in the quarterfinals and Thailand’s Thongwattana Chakrit in the semifinals.

He then teamed up with three other compatriots to take silver in the men’s team event, losing 220-221 to Malaysian archers in the final.
