There has been just one major refereeing error in
the seven rounds of the V-League so far, the head of the Referee Council said
after a video review of all the matches.

“The referees are doing their job well though making mistakes
is inevitable,” Nguyen Van Mui said.

The sole error – one which has sparked off a big media debate –
was by Ngo Quoc Hung in the seventh round last Sunday, he said.

At Vinh Stadium, early in the second half, the young referee
blew for a penalty for Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) and sent off Lam Son Thanh Hoa’s
Nigerian defender John Wole for handling inside the box.

He also red-carded Wole who strongly remonstrated. Thanh Hoa
went on to lose 3-0.

“Hung’s decision to award a penalty to Song Lam Nghe An was not
correct,” he said.

“Hung made the decision when he was unsighted. We have
penalised him but are not allowed to reveal it according to FIFA regulations.”

Vo Minh Tri’s decision to award hosts SHB Da Nang three
penalties against Khatoco Khanh Hoa also became contentious.

But Mui said they were correctly given on each occasion.

Referees have so far handed out the same number of red cards as
last year but 35 more yellow card.
