The escort motorist, who rode ahead of cyclists when they were just 500 meters
from the destination line at the fifth round of the HTV Cycling Race on April
25, was concluded to have violated the cycling rule.

The event’s chief referee Nguyen Ngoc Vu cited the
International Cycling Union regulation, which rules that the last 500m session
of any terrain cycling route must be totally cleared without any escort motor
ahead of cyclists.

The rule is applied to ensure fair competition for all
cyclists in terms of wind resistance.

Concerning the allegation that the cyclist Nguyen Quoc Dung
from the Vinamit team rode behind the escort motor to take advantage of wind to
slice through the air and win the stage, Vu argued that the advantage was
almost nothing as he was at least 6m behind the motor.

Le Van Phu, head of the organization board of the race, also
agreed to the violation by the motorist whose name was not revealed and added
the win of Dung is valid and thus acknowledged.

The 23rd HTV Cycling Race started last Thursday with the
participation of 80 cyclists from 14 teams. The nine-stage race running through
over 1,000 km will wrap up on April 30.
