Hoang Thi Bao Tram won the Asian Blitz Chess Championship, in Iran, on Wednesday.

The female master came into the win on the heels of a defeat at the Asian Individual Women Chess Championship which ended Tuesday - also in Iran.

In the first game, Tram (ELO 2325) upset China’s chess prodigy Hou Yifan, who is ranked third in the world. Encouraged by the win, Tram entered a hot streak and finished nine games, with seven points.

Tram’s fellow female chess players did not fare as well. Thanh An finished 10th; Thao Nguyen 17th and Mai Hung 18th in the contest.
