Host Vietnam tops 5th ASEAN School Games

Vietnamese track-and-field athletes won seven gold, four silver and four bronzes on the second day of the 5th ASEAN School Games (June 26).

In the men’s 200m race Le Trong Hinh was clocked first at 22s02, followed by Thailand’s Teerapong Sunthanon and Malaysia’s Badrul Hisyam Binabdul Manap.

His teammate Le Hoai Phuong won the men’s 800m event after 1m55s82 and Vu Thi Ly beat all her opponents in the women’s 800m event after 2m14s48.

Seventeen year-old Nguyen Thi Oanh also came first in the women’s 200m and 4x400m relay events.

The remaining two golds went to 18-year-old Nguyen Thi Oanh in the women’s 2,000m event and Nguyen Van Hao in the men’s long jump event.

With their outstanding performance Vietnam topped the list with a total of 16 gold, five silver and six bronze medals.

Malaysia came second with five golds, 10 silvers and seven bronzes and Thailand third with five golds, nine silvers and 13 bronzes.
