VietNamNet Bridge - The provincial government of Khanh Hoa has allowed two- to five-star hotels to increase their room rates by a maximum of 50% during the Beach Festival 2011 due to take place from this June 11 to 15, an official said.

Le Xuan Than (R), vice chairman of Khanh Hoa Province, talks to local media at

the meeting in HCMC to promote the Beach Festival 2011 in Nha Trang

Le Xuan Than, vice chairman of the province, said that the authorities would punish those hotels that spur the rates by over 50%, and would launch numerous inspections to ensure compliance among hoteliers there.

Khanh Hoa, known for its Nha Trang Bay and several beautiful beaches, is determined to prevent any exorbitant rate rise during the travel season, especially in this summer with many festivities to take place there.

“We’ve had a meeting with two- to five-star hotels to ask them to comply with the order, and would carry out many inspections during the festival,” he said in a meeting on Monday to promote the festival in HCMC.

The province expects to welcome around 100,000 visitors to the five-day festival, up 10% compared to the last festival in 2009.

The province has over 13,000 guest rooms of all categories, including over 3,000 rooms of three- to five-star standards. Despite its approval for a higher hotel room rate, the provincial government still expects such high-standard facilities to keep their rates unchanged during the festival.

At the meeting on Monday, tourism officials of Khanh Hoa announced that 60 tourism, culture and sport events would take place on the main road of Tran Phu in Nha Trang City and Ninh Hoa Town during the festival.

Than said that the province is working with airlines over plans to increase flights to Cam Ranh International Airport to serve the high demand on this occasion.

“We can’t say about the number of additional flights but we need more flights. The airlines added 16 flights from Hanoi and HCMC to Khanh Hoa on this Liberation and Labor Day holidays but the amount was still not enough,” he said.

Regarding efforts to encourage airlines to open international air services to the new international airport, Than said the provincial government is mulling support for the airlines to open the new air routes.

Truong Dang Tuyen, director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, told the Daily that the tourism sector is working with service providers to give big offers to airlines and travel companies that launch foreign chartered flights to the province.

“Some hotels and restaurants will lower their service charges by 20% to 50% for tourists from foreign chartered flights, and it is hoped that such flights will make a good start for direct flights to Khanh Hoa in the coming time,” he said.

Tuyen said the new airport has received some chartered flights from Russia, South Korea and Singapore, but there are now international direct flights to the airport. The province expects to welcome some chartered flights from the Malaysia state of Malacca late this year.

“I’ve just come back from a meeting in Malacca, and the state leaders have promised about chartered flights to bring tourists to Cam Ranh in November”, he said.
