The eco-friendly fair-trade shop in Hue city Town, Healing the Wounded Heart (HWH), added a new Tea Room to its premises on May 4.

The Tea Room, which stretches out into a green patio, is a refuge from street traffic, a place to unwind and enjoy the traditional tea ceremony of the former imperial capital of Vietnam. On the menu are flower teas and mè xửng (sesame sweets).

The cozy atmosphere of the Tea Room is complemented with classic H’mong batik tapestry. Even though most of the staff is deaf or otherwise challenged, they communicate perfectly with guests.

HWH trains and employs disabled people in the community. It sells unique eco-friendly products made using recycled materials and traditional Vietnamese textiles. HWH donates half of its net proceeds for medical treatment of the disabled.

HWH works in partnership with the American nonprofit organization Spiral Foundation, and the Office of Genetic Counseling and Disabled Children, Hue College of Medicine and Pharmacy.
