Construction of a victory heritage site with an estimated total cost of VND 133 billion (US$6.3 million) commenced in Vi Thanh city, Hau Giang province on March 6.

The project, funded by the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, aims to honour the victories of Military Zone 9′s people and army from over 75 attacks by the US army troops during 1973.

Covering an area of over 7,000 square metres in ward 5 of Vi Thanh city, the construction includes an exhibition house and an outdoor display space.

Works on display will include documentaries, historical documents, objects and photos reflecting the fierce but glorious victories and; in addition will include the weaponry used in the battles, such as airplanes, tanks, guns and helicopters.

The project, which is one of the key constructions to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Hau Giang province (2004-2014), is expected to be completed within 360 days.

Once completed, the construction will not only beautify the landscape of Vi Thanh city but also memorialise the people’s gratitude for the soldiers who laid down their lives for the national liberation and serve to intensify education in the revolutionary traditions for young people.
