Tam Coc – Bich Dong is a popular tourist destination near the city of Ninh Binh in Northern Vietnam.

The best time to go backpacking in Tam Coc – Bich Dong just lasts about two weeks when rice fields starts to turn yellow.

Being 110 kilometer from the centre of Hanoi, going along Highways 1A, we rided motorcycles to Tam Coc – Bich Dong (Ninh Binh city) in hot summer.

After buying sightseeing ticket and hiring a boat for four people, we went along Ngo Dong river and started our journey.

Departing from Dinh Cac pier, it took 2-3 hours for us to visit three caves: Ca cave, Hai cave and Ba cave. We really feasted our eyes on a lovely view.

Indeed, the limestone mountains here have many caves linked together by Ngo Dong river. Along two sides of the river, there are yellow rice fields and boats down with the wind. The tranquil landscape here is an inspriration to many photographers.

Ninh Binh has many tourist sites but Tam Coc – Bich Dong is the oldest place and the only place where local people still grow rice. They only harvest rice in a fifth-month crop and the productivity is not good.

The best time to go backpacking and take photos in Tam Coc – Bich Dong just lasts two weeks from late May to early June.

Tam Coc is an age-old tourist attraction so services here are very good.
