First private archive celebrates VN doctors

The first private archive in Viet Nam will open tomorrow at Van Mieu (Temple of Literature), providing a place to study and preserve the history of Viet Nam’s doctors.

The centre, run by Associate Prof Nguyen Van Huy, former director of the Viet Nam Ethnology Museum, will oversee the building of Van Mieu Park in Cao Phong District in the northern province of Hoa Binh, as a place to store the historical documents and artefacts of Viet Nam’s doctors.

Festival to celebrate VN’s many cultures

A cultural festival will be held from October 6-9 at the Exhibition Centre, 2 Hoa Lu Street, Ha Noi, to celebrate the city’s 1,000th birthday.

Twenty provinces and cities, representing the northern, central and southern regions, will showcase their traditional arts, costumes, folk games and cooking.

The October 6 opening ceremonies will be held on open-air stages, such as August 19 Square in central Ha Noi, and Thanh Tri District’s stage and Ha Dong city’s stage.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will co-operate with the Ha Noi People’s Committee and 20 provincial and city People’s Committees to hold the event.

An Giang recognises 24 Khmer cultured pagodas

24 Kh’mer pagodas in southern An Giang province which were established 100-400 years ago have been recognised as cultured pagodas.

Some of those pagodas, including Tuol Chi Mung, Onh Dong Peng and Wath Ohn Chun used to be the State’s revolutionary bases during the two resistance wars against the American and French invaders.

The pagodas have well satisfied such criteria as practicing religion according to law, holding festivals according to traditions and customs of Khmer ethnic minority people and guiding ethnic people to follow policies and laws of the State.

The province is currently home to 64 Khmer pagodas, mostly in Tri Ton, Tinh Bien, Chau Thanh, Chau Phu and Thoai Son districts.
