Local pop sensation Dam Vinh Hung will represent Vietnam in the ASEAN Golden Voice Festival.

A singing contest for South East Asian professional singers will be held in Vietnam for the first time this month.

The 2008 ASEAN Golden Voice Festival, in Ho Chi Minh City from October 16-20, is expected to attract singers from eight ASEAN countries – Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. It will also feature non-ASEAN guest contestants from China, the Republic of Korea and Bulgaria.

The contestants, all professional singers, will perform pop songs in English or traditional folk songs from their own countries. Veteran folk singer Hong Ngat and pop stars Dam Vinh Hung, Minh Quan and Ngoc Anh will represent Vietnam in the contest.

The international judging panel of nine members will include Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Secretary-General David Astley, Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh and Zhu Jin from China Central Radio.

The ASEAN Golden Voice Festival will be broadcast live on Ho Chi Minh City Television’s HTV9 channel and in the countries of the contestants.
