They will play Octuor a Cordes, a composition for stringed instruments by Meldenssohn, who died in 1847 and is recognised as one of Germany’s leading musicians.

Sylvie, Francois and three Vietnamese artists: violinists Nguyen Huu Nguyen, Nguyen Khoi Nam, and pianist Le Ho Hai, will also play Quintte pour Clarinette et Cordes - a composition by Mozart.

The concert will finish with renditions by Beethoven and Dvorak.

One of France’s outstanding musical talents, Sylvie, born in 1950 in Nice, has won several international music awards including the first prize at the Conservatoire National superieur de musique et de dance de Paris in 1965.

She has also won prizes at the Maria-Canals and Carl-Flesch music competitions in Barcelona in 1967 and in London in 1968.

Over the years, she has performed in many concerts in China, Japan and the US.

In 1985, Sylvie began teaching violin at the Paris National Music Conservatory.

Cellist Francois works as a music professor for the Nantes Music Conservatory. He has also performed with Utopik and Anamorphose, two popular chamber groups, in France.

The show is part of the Viet Nam Culture and Art Development Co-operation Programme, which was launched this year by the French Consul General and the HCM City Music Conservatory.

The concert will begin at 8pm at the HCM City Music Conservatory, 112 Nguyen Du Street, District 1.

Tickets, ranging from VND80,000 to 100,000 (US$7), are available at the theatre’s box office.
