VietNamNet BridgeA concert was held at the residence of the US Ambassador to Vietnam Michael Michalak on Friday with the performance of Vietnamese students and lecturers from the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

This is the second time such a concert was held in the residence of Ambassador Michalak. He has a great interest in culture, particularly the classical music. His wife, Yoshiko who came from Japan and used to be a piano lecturer, is the one who initiated the organisation of a series of concerts in their living room.

“Artists playing classical music do not have many opportunities to perform. That’s why we want to provide them more chances to shine their talent,” said Michael Michalak said.

Last night saw the performance of three students and two lecturers from the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Of around one hour performance, five works by F. Chopin, are played by excellent piano students and talented lecturers. Together with the piano and flute duet of works by J. Massenet, F. Schubert and A.Dvorak with their performance of a fourth year student of the wind-percussion and a lecturer, the night was really a luxury music banquet.

“This is the first step for students for performance in big stage. From this, they can get more experiences and come a bit closer to success,” said the Ambassador.

Though this is not a big concert as there are only around 20 audiences, such a kind of salon concert was warmly welcomed by participants.

Bui Cong Duy, a violin talent who was also among of the guests last night said “I was invited to play in the first concert in the Ambassador’s house. Though there were only a small number of guests, I was still very happy to play here.”

“This is a really useful playground for young students as this would give them more self-confidence before they play on a big stage.”

According to the Ambassador, they hope to organise such a concert once every six weeks. This is a very goodwill from an US Ambassador towards Vietnamese young talents.
