VietNamNet Bridge - Nguyen Ngoc Yen Nhu, a pupil at the Vo Thi Sau primary school in Long An southern province, and another girl from Thailand, won the first prize for Asia at an International Children’s Drawing Contest on the theme of Gender Equality.

The painting named “Both Boys and Girls Are Playing Together on Field” by Nguyen Ngoc Yen Nhu was one of the ten paintings by Vietnamese children joining the contest which was held in Brussels, Belgium. With the prize, Nhu was awarded with EUR 1,000.

The event was launched in Vietnam earlier this year and received 3,000 designs nationwide of which the best ten designs were chosen to be sent to Brussels for the international selection round.

Among nearly 26,000 drawings from all over the world submitted to the contest, 14 of them were selected for awards. In particular, the jury consisted of European children aged 8-10 years.

The contest, organised by the European Commission on the occasion of the International Women’s Day 2008, aims to call on children in the third countries, to express their vision of women/men equality.
