American pianist Julia Andrews will perform at the HCMC Conservatory of Music on November 7

American pianist Julia Andrews will perform at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music on Friday Nov. 7.

Andrews will perform a seven-chapter piece called Pulsus Infractus (Broken beating) composed by American Dirk Johan Stromberg, who attended the Contemporary Music Festival held in the conservatory last month.

The work’s name expresses the composer’s idea about how broken and unconnected sounds become connected through rhythm.

Julia Andrews is a professor of music theory, aural skills, and group piano at the Monmouth College in the US.

Andrews graduated with a master of music degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She received two bachelor of music degrees in piano and music theory from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. While at Texas Tech, she was a presser scholar for excellence in music and was the highest ranked undergraduate in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

She also plays with the jazz trio Surprisingly Hip. The conservatory is located at 122 Nguyen Du Street, District 1.
