A visitor looks at a painting on display at the ‘95 Years of Gia Dinh Painting School – HCMC University of Fine Arts’ exhibition currently open in HCMC

The “95 Years of Gia Dinh Painting School – HCMC University of Fine Arts” exhibition opened in Ho Chi Minh City Saturday, featuring around 200 Vietnamese works.

The paintings, depicting various activities, portraits and landscapes in Vietnam, are produced by different generations of students of the school.

The exhibition, which also includes 28 sculptures, celebrates the 95th anniversary of the founding of the first fine arts school in southern Vietnam.

The Gia Dinh Painting School was originally established by the French Government in 1913 in former Gia Dinh Province, which is now Binh Thanh District. It was renamed Gia Dinh National Fine Arts and Decoration School in 1970, and in 1976 merged with the Saigon National Fine Arts College to form the HCMC University of Fine Arts.

The exhibition will remain open at the HCMC Fine Arts Museum, at 97A Pho Duc Chinh Street in District 1, until November 25.
