Their video clip The Flower Story used shots of old bouquets left to rot on the street to highlight environmental issues.

Leader of the winning team, Chu Hoang Minh, says the contest was a useful venue to explore an important issue in Vietnamese society. “We wanted to discuss and learn how to care about the environment,” he said.

The prize for best videography went to an entry from the Lomonosov secondary school for their short film Finishing School Time. My Little Goldfish by students from the Doan Thi Diem primary school got the most creative prize and the Nguyen Sieu school took home best interview skills prize with their clip The Diary of Out Class. All these schools are in Hanoi .

The Marie Curie team will represent Vietnam in the KWN regional contest, which will be held in Malaysia on Dec. 3. If they get through, the children will compete in the global KWN, to be held in Japan at the beginning of July next year. The top six teams selected for the global contest will get a six-day trip to Japan .

KWN is a global video education programme for elementary and junior high school students aimed at boosting creativity, communication and teamwork skills. More than 100,000 children around the world have taken part since KWN first began in the US in 1989.
