VietNamNet Bridge – The director of “The Sorrow of War” project will be changed, said Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat, spokeswoman of the project.

“The Sorrow of War” was translated into over ten languages.

Ngat said Viet Film, the movie producer, has sent a dispatch to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to announce the change.

Previously, the Ministry licensed Viet Film to produce the movie, “The Sorrow of War, “ based on Vietnamese writer, Bao Ninh’s novel of the same name.

Viet Film chose American director Nicolas Simon for the film. Simon has come to Vietnam several times and worked with writer Bao Ninh for several years.

When the movie was about to be shot, Bao Ninh suddenly stated that they would “have no further connection” to the movie because the idea of his novel was incorrectly translated.

After several negotiations, the producer decided to change Nicolas Simon to another director who is “more experienced.” The new director is still unknown.
