VietNamNet Bridge – A pair of dragons at the Temple of King Tran Nhan Tong in Hue city has been recognised as a Vietnamese record for their length.

The Vietnam Record Book Centre will present the record certificate for the longest pair of court dragons on December 7, 2008.

These dragons lie along the stairs leading up to the temple sanctum. They are carved very intricately with the four-knowledge motif (music-chess-poetry-drawing), three unicorns playing shuttle-cock, and clouds.

The dragons are 105m long and were created by artisan Nguyen Dinh Quang and 20 workers from June 1 to October 15, 2008. Craftsmen used 78cu.m of sand, 41.5 tonnes of cement, 1.5 tonnes of iron, 6 tonnes of stone powder, and 36,300 bricks to make the dragons.

The Temple of King Tran Nhan Tong is being built to celebrate the 750th birthday (1258-2008) and 700th death anniversary (1308-2008) of this judicious king.
