VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese and Japanese calligraphers had a meeting and performance at the Cot pagoda in Hanoi on Saturday.

Over 20 Japanese calligraphers and Vietnam’s Zen’ei Gang of Five group joined the meeting, which was held by the Indochina Calligraphy Association. The meeting emphasized the change of calligraphy.

This is the first time calligraphers of the Zen’ei Gang of Five group were directly meeting and exchanging with Japanese colleagues.

Since the Mainichi Calligraphy Association had its first exhibition and performance at the Vietnam Arts Museum, the Indochina Calligraphy Association is the second Japanese association who came to Vietnam to introduce Japanese calligraphy and meet with the only modern calligraphy group in Vietnam, the Zen’ei Gang of Five.

At the meeting, Vietnamese calligraphers introduced to Japanese colleagues and the audience the history of Vietnamese calligraphy in the past 1,000 years and the characteristics of Vietnamese modern calligraphy.

Vietnamese and Japanese calligraphers also created 20 large-sized modern calligraphic works.

This was also the first time such an event organized inside a pagoda.

Here are some calligraphic works by Japanese calligraphers.
