A work by painter La Huy displayed at Himiko Visual Café in District 10

A venue for artists and art lovers has inaugurated its new location this month with a painting exhibition that captures the relationship between human beings and nature, and between human beings themselves.

The Giac ngu dai, tiep den la con mong mi (A long sleep, followed by a dream) exhibit features 32 oil paintings by young artist La Huy, a graduate from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts.

The depiction of the relationships is not always complimentary, says Huy. There are works in the show that “criticize men’s selfishness.”

“The overall purpose, however, is to show the real value of human beings.”

The exhibition is being held at the Himiko Visual Café, which has been relocated from Binh Thanh District to District 10.

Opened in 2005, the café has been an after-work haunt of art lovers and an exhibition venue for local and international artists alike.

Café owner Nguyen Kim Hoang says: “I hope in the new location, it’s still a peaceful place where people can taste a cup of coffee and enjoy the new art work of young artists after a hard working day.”

The exhibition will continue until January 7, 2009 at 324Bis Dien Bien Phu Street, District 10.
