The festival’s opening had the attendance of Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung and other high ranking officials together with the participation of ten provinces including Bac Giang, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Can, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, Vinh Phuc, Quang Ninh and Phu Tho.

A grand art performance was also given in the opening, followed by a firework display and sky lighting release.

The festival will see various activities such as culinary and costume show, traditional games and festivities of ethnic minority people in the region.

On the occasion, an exhibition on the culture and history of ethnic groups in the north-eastern region was opened on December 11.

Nearly 500 artifacts and more than 100 documentary photos were put on display to feature the customs and lifestyle of ethic minority groups living in the north-eastern region.

The exhibition displays Buddhist statues dating back to the 17th century and sculptures of temples and pagodas in Vietnam in different historical periods. It also highlights the great assistance given by minority groups to the Bac Giang people’s struggle against foreign aggressors.
