HCM City announces cultural activities for Tet

| VietNamNet Bridge – This year the country’s largest city will welcome the lunar New Year or Tet holiday with flower markets, flower festivals, flower roads, music festivals and firework shows.
Just two weeks after the Western New Year, HCM City’s Tet flower markets will open for public. The markets will run from January 18 to 25, 2009.
This year’s flower markets will be held at the three parks of 23/9, Gia Dinh and Le Van Tam. The market at 23/9 Park will be the major flower market of the city. During January 18-25, 2009, cars will not be allowed to park along the pavements of the park.
The Spring Flower Festival is scheduled to run from January 20, 2009 till January 31. The event will take place on the left-sided area of Truong Dinh Road. The Festival will have three major zones: the zone for foreign flowers and ornamental trees and the another for local flowers and ornamental trees, and the one for festival.
During the festival, visitors will have a chance to participate in flower arrangement and drawing contests, folk games, to watch martial arts performances, fashion shows, music and circuit shows, painting exhibitions, calligraphic exhibitions, tea ceremony, and a cooking festival.
The flower road of Nguyen Hue city will open for public on January 23, 2009. At the same time, the three streets of Le Loi, Dong Khoi and Le Duan and the 30/4 Park will be lightened by thousands of lights.
Firework shows will be held at six sites in the city, on the lunar New Year’s Eve, including: the Ho Chi Minh Museum, Binh Phu Park in District 6, Go Vap District’s Cultural Park, Tan Binh Industrial Zone in Tan Binh District, Ben Duoc Monument in Cu Chi District and the football ground of Can Gio District.
