Int’l volunteer to bring warm Christmas to disadvantaged people

| VietNamNet Bridge - Sixteen international volunteers and 18 Vietnamese volunteers are making charity activities during December 22 to January 3, 2009 to bring a warm Christmas to disadvantaged children and elderly people.
They are going to organise the Christmas and New Year celebration and to offer gifts to around 200 orphans and 80 homeless elderly people in these places. A guitar performance to raise fund for these people will take place on December 22 at the Hanoi Friendship Palace. The event, jointly held by the SJ Vietnam and the Hanoi Classical Guitar Club, will see the performance of Artist of Merit Van Vuong and artist Phuong Ha. Audiences to the event can also have a chance to exchange with 16 international volunteers who come to Vietnam for charity activities. During these two weeks, local volunteers and international volunteers will bring gifts and organise performances for disadvantaged children and elderly people to give them a warm atmosphere in the Christmas time and New Year The organiser said the event, with the message “Warm heart, warm Christmas” come from a Danish fairy tale written by Hans Christian Andersen ‘The Little Match Girl”. The story points out what is underneath the poverty and hunger and the fact that there are people who lack love and attention. “By paying attention to people and showing your concern you will warm their hearts.” With the key message “Warm heart, warm Christmas” work camp is hoped to foster relationship between people and also to give them hope for the beautiful future. These activities are also based on the goals of SJ Vietnam that promotes the values of solidarity, peace, tolerance through young citizenship projects to improve society during and after the voluntarism.
